South Sudan: strength in fragility/02
South Sudan, Hai Matara village, 2017. Durisila Kayiwa, 42 years old and Stephen Tabau, 51 years old, husband and wife, stand in from of the tombs of their three daughters, all victims of Nodding disease. Their only child to survive is their daughter Yucunia, who is also severely affected by the same illness. For their last child to be buried, in February 2017, they were only able to use stones to cover the corpse. As the civil war continues, there is no chance to find any cement for the tomb.
